The Global Challenges Programme (GCP), launched in 2024 and hosted by Reuben College, Oxford University, takes an interdisciplinary and impact-driven approach to addressing the most pressing global challenges of our time, bringing together researchers, innovators, technologists, and policymakers to drive meaningful change.
GCP’s inaugural initiative, Generation AI, is focused on exploring the impact of advanced AI systems on human development, with the aim of incubating new thinking and practical actions to ensure AI contributes to a flourishing future for the next generation. Young people are at the forefront of new technology adoption and as such will be key creators and consumers of AI in the future. We believe that it is critical to centre their growth, development and safety as integral elements of AI instead of afterthoughts – envisioning a future where young people grow, develop, and learn using the best of what technology offers. We stress core virtues and values such as agency, creativity, imagination, empathy, critical thinking, and connection.
